I would like more information on the exam regulations
All examinations are conducted under University regulations and a breach of these will be considered as grounds for academic misconduct which may include the termination of your studies.
Once you enter the exam room you are under examination conditions which means not talking or communicating with any students. If you need help please raise your hand and an invigilator will come and speak with you. You must remain silent until you leave the exam room, even if the exam has finished, you should not talk until the invigilators have dismissed you from the room.
Most exams are closed book which means you are not permitted to bring any additional materials in with you. No revision notes should be brought into the examination room. If you do bring them with you they must be left in a bag at the front/back of the room. Use of mobile phones or other electronic devices is not permitted in the exam room. If you do bring them with you they must be switched off and left in a bag at the front/back of the room.
If you are doing an invigilated SurreyLearn online exam you will need to bring your mobile phone with you to use the multifactor authentication. Once you have logged in you must switch your phone off and place it in your bag at the front/back of the room. Before attending your online invigilated exam, please remind yourself of your SurreyLearn log in details as this will save you time at the start of the exam. If you are doing an invigilated SurreyLearn online exam you should not be accessing any other materials or webpages outside of the SurreyLearn page needed for the exam unless your exam is open book or specifies that you can visit certain other web pages.
Some exams do allow additional materials in the exam. Please check with your module leader and the SurreyLearn pages to see if this applies to you. Some exams do allow the use of a calculator. If you are permitted the use of a calculator please make sure you bring a non-programmable one. The use of a programmable calculator during an exam is classed as academic misconduct.
If you have any doubts about what you can bring into the exam with you please check with the invigilator in the room when you arrive and before you start the exam to make sure you have not brought in any unauthorised materials.
More details on exam conduct can be viewed on our exams page.
