If I report an incident of sexual violence or harassment, will my information be kept private?

If you choose access our Sexual Violence Liason Officer (SVLO) service and speak to a Sexual Violence Liason Officer (SVLO), any information that you share will be securely stored and will be kept confidential within the SVLO team.

If you choose to access the SVLO service, an SVLO can discuss:

  • Talking about what happened (if and when you feel ready)
  • Accessing specialist services, including those offering longer-term support
  • Reporting to the University or Police
  • Choosing not to report at this time

The team will never pressure you into making decisions before you’re ready.

Everything that you tell an SVLO stays within the SVLO Service, which sits in the University’s Health and Wellbeing Team.

The team will only share information without your permission if there is a serious and immediate risk to you or someone else, and will always aim to involve you in that process wherever it is safe to do so.

If you request a referral to another organisation, the SVLO will share only the relevant information needed using a referral form.

You can also access the university's Harassment and sexual misconduct pages.
