What is fitness to practise?
There are some courses at the University that include placements in a clinical or professional setting and either require or lead to registration with a professional body such as courses in health and social care, psychology or veterinary medicine. Students on these programmes are required to abide by a professional code of conduct and/or practice requirements.
The University requires that students following these programmes behave at all times in a manner that:
conforms to relevant document(s) that set out the expectations for professional conduct or practice, including the Registration Body's requirements around the use of public and private social media
is consistent with the behaviour required by the relevant profession and by the employers of such professional staff
does not jeopardise or put at risk the welfare, wellbeing, or safety of themselves and/or others.
Allegations of failing to comply with this professional code will trigger an internal investigation in line with the Regulations for Fitness to Practise. This could lead to consideration by a Fitness to Practise Panel, who determine whether the student is fit to continue with their course.
