Can I submit an extenuating circumstances (EC) application after the assessment event or deadline has passed?
In some situations, where, for example, the nature of the illness affected your capacity to report it before the assessment deadline or the start of a timed assessment event, any delayed requests for the recognition of extenuating circumstances should always be supported by evidence and cannot be self-certified.
In these circumstances, you can submit an evidence based extenuating circumstances (EC) application up to 5 working days after the assessment event or deadline has passed, but you must have evidence to support this as well as evidence that confirms why you were unable to submit your application before the assessment deadline or event. You should do this as soon as possible, even if you do not have all of the supporting evidence. Once you have all the required evidence to support your request, please submit it by adding it to your EC application in written English or accompanied by certified translations where appropriate.
In circumstances where you are taken ill or affected by unforeseen circumstances during an assessment event and cannot continue to complete it, you must immediately advise the exam invigilator (for a written face-to-face exam) or other appropriate staff member (for all other types of assessment) of your situation. You must submit an evidence based EC application and produce the relevant supporting evidence within five working days after the affected event.
