Do my grades get capped if my extenuating circumstances (EC) application is approved and my assignment deferred or deadline extended?
If you have approved extenuating circumstances (EC) for an assessment and your attempt is deferred to another assessment period or a deadline is extended, the rules that applied to the specific attempt will continue to apply. So for example, if the EC relates to a first attempt at an assessment and the EC outcome is approved and the assessment deferred to the next reassessment opportunity, then the marks for that deferred first attempt will not be capped. However if the EC relates to a second attempt at an already failed assessment, then the marks will be capped in the same way as if the student had resat this without the EC. All of the rules that apply to the attempt number still apply, regardless of whether there is an EC.
