How can I change my health sciences placement locality?
If you want to change your health sciences placement location you will need to submit a locality change form. You can find the "locality change request form" under "Request a change to your locality or placement" tab on the Practice Learning Pages on SurreyLearn. Please ensure you have discussed a potential change with your personal tutor / field lead prior to completing the form. Please also be aware, each locality will have an agreed capacity and some are very popular resulting in waiting lists.
You should ensure that you have a valid reason for requesting a change. Please consider the following points:
- Travel time – it is expected that you will be required to travel within a large radius of the Trust in which you are placed. It is not unreasonable to have a journey of an hour and a half or more
- Travelling to placement – ensure that you have looked at all possible ways of getting there. The best website to check is Traveline. Car sharing with other students may also be possible. You should also consider staying at the placement or nearby – some placements have rooms available. Look at the NHS Bursary site for information on funding.
- Costs of travelling or the convenience as to where you live are not valid reasons for wanting a locality change as we have to be fair to all students.
- Care arrangements can only be considered in exceptional circumstances following discussion with your Field Lead. Please read the Student Guidance Notes about Localities, then fill out a Locality Change Form. Both documents are found on the SurreyLearn Professional Preparation Student Support page under Forms.
