How do I update my current visa to an eVisa as required by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) (by the end of 2024)?

If you hold an immigration visa that extends into 2025, you will need to take action to register your visa within the UK’s new digital immigration system that is being implemented by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). You will need to do this before the end of 2024.

The account is free to create through the gov.uk website.

If you have any problems creating your UKVI account, please check through the help information listed on gov.uk in the first instance, or contact the UKVI if you need further support. Unfortunately, the University cannot assist directly with technical issues.

If you have any queries about your University immigration status, please contact the MySurrey Hive team via Surrey Support, and select “International Advice and Visas” as your enquiry topic.

Holders of student visas

If you already hold a student visa, and have set up the UKVI account, you do not need to send a share code to the University. The UK Government will provide updated details to the University directly, and we will update your record using this information. If there are any issues receiving eVisa data from the Government, we will contact you towards the end of 2024 to request a share code.

Holders of non-student visas

If you hold a non-student visa, you will need to send us a share code once you have created your UKVI account, so we can verify your new status and update your student record. The share code can be generated using the View and Prove Service.

When generating the share code, you will be asked what it will be used for; you must select the third option of “Everything Else”. If a code is generated using any of the other options, it will not provide the necessary information.

Once you have the share code, login to your Surrey Self-Service Account and paste the code into the Share Code box in the Passport and Visas section of your Registration details. We will then verify your details and update your status. Due to the high volume of share codes to be verified, there may be a delay in updating your information.
