How many hours are nursing students required to do in practice?
If you are a nursing student, you are required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to complete a minimum total of 4600 hours theory and practice hours (at least 2300 theory hours and at least 2300 Practice hours) over 3 years. You will be required to undertake a 37.5 hour week, following a shift pattern as similar to your Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor as possible.
If you are an international student on a Student visa undertaking employment that forms part of a degree programme (e.g. nursing practice, PTY placements), you are permitted to work unrestricted hours. If you undertake any paid work in addition to this, that is not part of your programme (e.g. a part-time/weekend job), this must be limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week during term-time as required by the Student visa regulations.
