I want to make changes to my optional modules, but I have missed the deadline, what can I do?
If you want to change the optional modules that you have previously selected or have been allocated (if you failed to make selections during the online module selection period), you must do this within the first two weeks of the semester. If you miss this deadline, changes are not normally allowed.
In exceptional cases, a late module change may be considered where:
there has been a University error or system problem; or
you had serious, documented personal circumstances that meant you could not act before the deadline (evidence would be needed) or;
a course change or timetable issue means you must move modules.
Late changes are not approved for reasons such as changing your mind, finding another module more interesting, or realising the workload is higher than expected.
If you do think that you have one of the exceptional reasons (outlined above) you should do two things:
Firstly, you should submit an evidence based extenuating circumstances (EC) application on Surrey Self-Service. You will need to explain why you missed the deadline and why you should be allowed to change modules. This must be submitted with formal evidence such as a doctor's letter.
Secondly, you should raise an enquiry with the MySurrey Hive team via Surrey Support. Please select “My course” as the enquiry topic and explain that you have submitted an EC application to request a late module change. Please make sure you include:
your full name and student ID;
the module you are currently registered on and the module you wish to change to (codes and titles);
details of the EC application (date and number)
This will allow Academic administration to quickly locate your EC application so they can review your request and let you know whether a late change is possible.
EC outcomes are not guaranteed. Please note, even if your EC is approved, your late module change request is still subject to timetable and capacity checks.
If you have any specific questions, the MySurrey Hive team can advise. You can send them your questions via Surrey Support, please select "My Course" as your enquiry topic.
If you are unable to access Surrey Support, please contact us via our enquiry form.
