I want to make changes to my optional modules, but I have missed the deadline, what can I do?

If you want to change the optional modules that you have previously selected or have been allocated (if you failed to make selections during the online module selection period), you must do this within the first two weeks of the semester. If you miss this deadline, changes are not normally allowed.

In exceptional cases, a late change may be considered where:

  • there has been a University error or system problem; or

  • you had serious, documented personal circumstances that meant you could not act before the deadline (evidence would be needed) or;

  • a course change or timetable issue means you must move modules.

Late changes are not approved for reasons such as changing your mind, finding another module more interesting, or realising the workload is higher than expected.

If you do think that you have one of the exceptional reasons (outlined above) you should raise an enquiry with the MySurrey Hive team via Surrey Support and select “My course” as the enquiry topic. Please make sure you include:

  • your full name and student ID;

  • the module you are currently registered on and the module you wish to change to (codes and titles);

  • a brief explanation of why you missed the deadline;

  • any relevant evidence (for example, medical documents or screenshots of system errors).

Academic administration will then review your request and let you know whether a late change is possible.
