What support is available for homesickness or loneliness?
Homesickness and loneliness is very common. You may have moved out of your family home for the first time. You may be away from loved ones and friends for the first time. Possibly living on your own and in a different area or even country. The University is here to help you through the transition.
The Students' Union have activities through the year that you can get involved with, as well as clubs and societies.
Surrey Sports Park offers discounts for students as well as some free events this is a good way to meet other people.
Our new service ThriveWell is a mental health and emotional wellbeing service which can help with a whole range of low level issues including anxiety, homesickness, loneliness and exam stress. They offer a range of workshops, events and daily drop-in sessions (Monday to Friday during term-time) to help you with specific support to improve your wellbeing. You can also pre-book one-to-one sessions (in-person or online) with our ThriveWell wellbeing advisers. Please also contact them via email if you have any specific questions.
