What support can I access if I am struggling with low mood or depression?
Many people struggle with low mood occasionally in reaction to many things, but it becomes a problem when it is more prolonged and effects your interest in things you usually enjoy and your daily functioning. You may feel low in energy, unable to concentrate or unable to look after yourself.
There are some things you can do to help manage feelings of low mood. Self-care for depression - Mind has a few things to try if you are able. However, if you do not feel able to manage alone, it could be helpful to reach out for support from friends, family or healthcare professionals.
Our new service ThriveWell is a mental health and emotional wellbeing service which can help with a whole range of low level issues including anxiety, low mood and exam stress. They offer a range of workshops, events and daily drop-in sessions (Monday to Friday during term-time) to help you with specific support to improve your wellbeing. The free to use Wisdom App is a comprehensive wellbeing and health platform by Health Assured and provided free of charge by the University to all Surrey students. It has lots of helpful tools to help with wellbeing issues arising from loneliness and homesickness. It offers tools and resources for mental and physical health, including personalized health plans, mood trackers, breathing techniques, and a 24/7 helpline for direct support. The app provides access to articles, podcasts, and live chat or video calls with counsellors. Simply download the Wisdom App from the App Store or Google Play and enter the code MHA268152 to get started.The Centre for Wellbeing can support you with symptoms of anxiety through counselling or support from a Mental Health Practitioner.
