What support is available to me during my intramural rotations (IMR)?
As a veterinary student on intramural rotations, you will have a Preceptor (previously referred to as a Clinical Instructor Mentor – CIM) out in practice, who is a registered veterinary surgeon with an interest in teaching and mentoring. Each Preceptor receives extensive training from us, to ensure they can give you the best on-the-ground support. They will provide you with feedback and facilitate your in-practice assessments.
You will also be allocated a member of University staff for each of your rotations, known as a Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Practice (LVCP), who is an experienced veterinary surgeon. They will be your main point of contact at the University. They will check in with you every two weeks (as a minimum) and keep track of your training, to ensure that you are exposed to a wide variety of clinical scenarios. This will include an in person visit to the practice to meet with both student and preceptors as well as a virtual meeting. They will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have or help with any issues you may be experiencing.
More information on the support available is also provided on the Surrey Learn module page.
