What is TravelCert and how do I access it?
If you are a student with a work or study year abroad opportunity or simply travelling overseas on university business, then you should access TravelCert (the University's insurance provider) to receive travel and medical insurance during your time overseas.
If you are planning an overseas trip as part of your course, you should first of all register with TravelCert. You will need to register by using your university email address.
Once registered you can then request coverage for each of the trips you are undertaking whilst studying at the University. There will be no cost to students for this insurance.
Once registered you can then make an application to cover all of the trip you are planning.
As part of your application, you will be required to provide the following information:
start and end date of your trip (please wait until your trip dates are accepted by your Head of Department and confirmed before registering your trip)
medical details
a list of the destination countries you will be visiting as part of your trip
purpose of the trip
value of any equipment you will be taking (up to £3,000 is usually included)
a declaration that you have checked the risk assessment for the countries you will be visiting. Any destination(s) that are deemed to be higher risk will be flagged by us for further review before we approve your application (you will not be asked to input a risk rating yourself)
emergency contacts
Once an individual trip is logged, a confirmation email with the cover note attached will be sent to you.
If a trip is not automatically accepted (e.g. due to a restricted territory or needs referral for medical reasons), a clarification email will be issued to you advising you to contact the Insurance Office. In these cases, the Insurance Office may ask you further questions and the cover may have policy restrictions
On the rare occasion where we are unable to arrange insurance we may ask YOU to arrange your own insurance and this would incur additional cost.
Up-to-date information on your destination country can be obtained by using the;
AIG Travel Assistance website where you will be required to input your university email address and the University’s Policy Number 0010016168; or
on the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) website
