Why do I have scheduled teaching sessions on my timetable taking place on Wednesday afternoons?

Normally, the University’s teaching scheduling principles require that there is no teaching on a Wednesday afternoon after 12pm.

However, there are some unavoidable and exceptional circumstances which mean we may need to schedule some sessions on Wednesday afternoons. Examples of these include:

  • Academic teaching staff and room availability

  • Exceptional all-day delivery for some taught courses

  • Optional modules (which can be scheduled between 12pm and 1pm on a Wednesday)

  • Optional sessions such as placement talks or value-added optional module content

The full list of criteria is available on our website within the Timetabling regulations – see the “Code of practice for the scheduling of teaching and assessment” (section relating to “Teaching week structure”).
