How do I apply for extenuating circumstances?

If you believe that you have valid grounds for an extenuating circumstances (EC) application, then you must submit an application as soon as you become aware of the situation – but not more than 2-3 weeks before the deadline as circumstances may change during that time. The extension that you can apply for will depend on the type of EC that you apply for.

Please ensure that if you are requesting a deferral of your assessment (rather than an extension of the deadline), that you make this clear and select deferral of your assessment(s).

If your circumstances change please see separate advice on cancelling your EC.

You can submit your EC application through Surrey Self-Service. You can find out more on how to submit your application our Extenuating Circumstances pages.
