When should I submit the application for extenuating circumstances?
Evidence-based ECs – these applications should be submitted no more than three weeks before the first deadline selected, but you can also apply after the deadline.
Self-certified ECs – these applications should be submitted no more than five days before the first deadline selected and cannot be submitted after the deadline.
Late requests
In some situations, where, for example, the nature of the illness affected your capacity to report it before the assessment deadline or the start of a timed assessment event, any delayed requests for the recognition of extenuating circumstances should always be supported by evidence and cannot be self-certified.
Submit your late request as soon as possible, even if you still do not have all the supporting evidence, with a clear explanation of why it was impossible to notify the University before the deadline. Once you have all the required evidence to support your request, please submit it in written English or accompanied by certified translations where appropriate.
If you are taken ill or affected by unforeseen circumstances during an assessment event and cannot continue to complete it, you must immediately advise the exam invigilator (for a written face-to-face exam) or other appropriate staff member (for all other types of assessment) of your situation. You must produce the relevant supporting evidence within five working days after the affected event.
