How do I get support in evacuating my room or University building in a fire or other emergency?

If you have a disability or long-term medical condition which affects your ability to safely evacuate in a building, a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) needs to be created for you. This could be if stairs are a barrier, you may sleep through fire alarms, or if you may be unable to leave a room without support in an emergency. Please contact the Disability & Neuroinclusion team via Surrey Support and they will make a referral to the Fire Safety Officer.

If you have a short-term need for support in evacuating in an emergency, you will still need a PEEP. This could be if you have been injured, such as a broken leg. For short-term injuries, contact your personal tutor who will make a referral.

You are also encouraged to watch our short Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans at the University of Surrey video.
