I am a final year student, if I apply for extenuating circumstances, will it affect my graduation?
Approved extenuating circumstances (EC) for undergraduate final year modules may receive an extension or a deferral. An EC application for an exam or test, if successful, will always result in the exam or test being deferred to the next available assessment opportunity. We cannot offer an extension for exams or tests.
A deferral to the next available assessment opportunity may mean a delay to your final award which won't be processed until later in the year and you won't be able to attend graduation until the following academic year. Therefore we would recommend that you seek advice before you submit the application.
If you need help with an application during exam periods, the Students’ Union offer ‘EC’s Quick Query’ and ‘Extenuating Circumstances Drop-in sessions’. You can view details on their What’s On calendar. You can also book a one-to-one session using the bookable EC advice slots if you need help. These are only available during exam periods. At other times you can also email the Students’ Union or visit the MySurrey Hive for help.
