I am stranded in another country and cannot travel to the UK to start or resume my university course. What should I do?

If you find yourself stranded in another country and not able to return to campus to continue with your studies, you should inform the University as soon as possible by submitting a case to the MySurrey Hive team via Surrey Support and selecting 'International Advice and Visas' as your enquiry topic.

You will then be contacted by the appropriate Immigration Team who will explain your options in more detail, depending on your specific circumstances.

As a general principle, the Student Visa route unfortunately does not permit remote study to be undertaken, so in most circumstances where a student cannot return to campus promptly, they will be required to apply for a period of formal temporary withdrawal and resume study at the start of the next appropriate semester. Depending on the length of the absence, it may be necessary for sponsorship of the existing student visa to be withdrawn, in which case the student will be able to apply for a new one ahead of resuming study on campus.
