If I am on a placement or professional training year, do I need to pay council tax?
If you are a student who is on a placement or professional training year you are treated as a full-time student for council tax purposes.
You will still need to provide your local authority with a letter confirming your student status as you have done in previous years. You can use our Surrey Support 'University Letters' page to generate a "Confirmation of Registration" letter confirming that you are a student. This letter will confirm your start date, your expected end date and the name of the course you are studying. This can then be used to apply for a council tax exemption from your local authority.
