If I submit an extenuating circumstance application for an exam, what outcome can I get?

Approved extenuating circumstance (EC) applications for exams or tests will always defer the exam or test to the next available assessment period. We cannot offer an extension for exams or tests.

In those incidences where there has been a technical issue during an exam, an approved EC may permit an exam to be marked rather than requiring a deferred attempt at another time. However this is subject to specific criteria and these cases are reviewed on a case by case basis.

If you are a final year student and have ECs that entail resits in the Late Summer Assessment period (LSA),  your final award will be delayed and you will not be able to attend your graduation ceremony in July with your cohort. In this case you would normally be invited to the next undergraduate graduation ceremony which is usually held in July of the following year.

For more information, you can read our Regulations for Extenuating Circumstances.
