What is a Cannabis Use Brief Intervention Course (CUBIC) session, and who can offer these?
There are many reasons why people take drugs, and generally they do so with no adverse consequences most of the time. Occasionally, however, and particularly when people take drugs as a means to numb or avoid uncomfortable emotions, they can get ‘stuck’ in a cycle of drug use which can become problematic in terms of physical and mental health. This can cause legal and social complications. Someone finding themselves in this position can be viewed as suffering from an "addiction" or "dependence".
With the right help and support, it's possible for anyone to get drug-free and stay that way.
The Centre For Wellbeing run Cannabis Use Brief Intervention Course (CUBIC) sessions. You can self-refer for these sessions or may be referred through internal departments as a result of cannabis usage on campus. This course is a one-off session and is run by our Mental Health Practitioners. It aims to give students facts and advice around cannabis usage, and help you to cut down or quit.
