What funding options are available to me on an unpaid placement?
Student Finance funding is available during your placement.
If you are taking an unpaid placement within the public sector with a hospital in a primary care trust in the UK, a local authority, a prison or the probation service you may be eligible for additional Student Finance funding. You will need to complete an Unpaid Placement Form, which can be found in the forms section of your SurreyLearn Professional Training site:
- Select the nine square icon at the top of the SurreyLearn page
- Search for Professional Training
- We recommend that you pin this page so that it always appears on your SurreyLearn module area.
If you find yourself in financial difficulty during your placement, you may be eligible for our hardship fund.
Students can apply for the hardship fund during their Professional Training Year, provided they meet the below criteria:
- You must be paying or have accessed a tuition fee loan for your Professional Training Year tuition fees
- You must have accessed a maintenance loan from Student Finance (if applicable)
- You must provide a copy of your placement contract and information regarding whether your placement is paid or unpaid and any other benefits you might receive.
