What is an Individual Support and Adjustments Plan?

If you are pregnant during your time at university we can support you by putting together an Individual Support and Adjustments Plan (ISAP) for you. This is a document that is completed in collaboration with your Personal Tutors, Programme Director and your Student Success Coach. The ISAP can also be used for students with very young children, although much of the adjustments outlined in the ISAP is directed to pregnancy.

In the first instance you should reach out to your Personal Tutor or your Student Success Coach, as support from the academic teams will be needed to facilitate this process. Alternatively, you can request a chat first of all with a Student Support Coordinator and to do this you should raise a case on Surrey Support and put either “Support with my Pregnancy” or ”Request for Student Support Coordinator” as the subject. However, they will need to involve the academic teams so it may be quicker to initiate the process with your Personal Tutor or Student Success Coach.

The process of supporting you may be different if you are on an accredited course. Some courses may also require additional or separate support plan and risk assessment that must be completed once a pregnancy is disclosed.

Any adjustments requested by you must be authorised by a member of academic staff and must comply with the requirements of an accreditation or regulatory body and adheres to the validation of the programme. The feasibility of adjustments will vary depending on the specific course and accreditation or regulatory body’s requirements.More information about the ISAP can be found on the Pregnancy, Maternity, and Parenthood Procedure for Students.You may also need a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) which can be put in place for students who may need additional support evacuating from university buildings. The need for the PEEP is normally established whilst completing the ISAP, and should be completed by the University Fire Safety Officer.
