Can I cancel my placement?
Switching between the placement year and non-placement year versions of your programme is a simple process and can be done at any point in time before the 31 August following the end of your preceding academic year. To make this request please contact the MySurrey Hive team via Surrey Support, and select "Placements" as your enquiry topic.
As the process is so simple, it means that you can keep your options open, as if you are still looking for a placement towards the end of the academic year, you will be able to select optional modules for your next academic year as a back-up plan, whilst continuing to apply for placements over the summer. Even when being transferred to a non-placement year pathway, your access will still remain to view placement adverts as well as your Professional Training SurreyLearn page:
- Select the nine square icon at the top of the SurreyLearn page
- Search for Professional Training
- We recommend that you pin this page so that it always appears on your SurreyLearn module area.
Should you then go on to secure a placement before the 31 August deadline, we can then transfer you back across to a placement year pathway.
If you are a Student visa holder, then you will need to submit a supporting statement alongside your request. In this statement you should explain the reasons for wishing to remove the placement year and how this will benefit your future career and personal aspirations. This can be sent as a Word document and should be several paragraphs in length. This supporting statement will be kept on your student record as evidence that the transfer was assessed in line with the Student Route visa regulations.
We would encourage you to make an appointment with an International Student Adviser to discuss this process further as they will be able to give you more guidance and support on the process. You may also find it useful to read through the information listed in our course issues page.
