How long is a Professional Training placement?
The majority of placements are 12 months with start and end dates to fall within the 15 month gap between the end of your second year and the start of your third year of studies.
The minimum duration of a placement is 1125 hours, which is roughly equal to 30 weeks at full time hours, although the 1125 hours can sometimes be reached via different working patterns, for example, more weeks but fewer hours, or vice versa. If you have secured a placement that was advertised by the University, the pattern is likely to be fixed, but if you have sourced your own placement (subject to our approval) then the work pattern may be part of your discussions with the employer. Some students may wish or need to complete multiple shorter placements to meet the minimum requirements of the year. Whether you undertake one long placement or two to three shorter ones, 1125 total hours remains the minimum requirement.
For students holding Student visas, any gaps between placements, gaps between the start of the academic year and the start of a placement, or gaps between the end of a placement and the end of the academic year, must be no more than 60 calendar days in order for sponsorship to be maintained.
