What should I do if I cannot find a placement by the deadline?
If you are planning to undertake an undergraduate Professional Training year, the official deadline for confirming a placement is 31 August (at the end of your second year).
If you have not secured a placement by the end of July, please let the Placements team know your current search status, including any live applications and interview dates. You can contact the Placements team via Surrey Support and select "Placements" as your enquiry topic.
If you have not been able to secure a placement offer by the 31 August deadline, but you believe there is still a realistic possibility of an existing recruitment process leading to a firm offer, let the Placements team know immediately. On a case-by-case basis we may be able to give you a little extra time, as long as we know when your potential employer/s are likely to make decisions. We may also be able to help to encourage those decisions to be made more quickly.
If you have not secured a placement by 31 August, and this is the end of your search, please contact the Placements team via Surrey Support to confirm that you will need to be transferred to the non-placement version of your programme of study. This will be arranged for you, and you will not have any problems proceeding to your final year of study with immediate effect. You will also be able to select optional modules to ensure you are not disadvantaged in this scenario.
If you are unable to access Surrey Support, please contact us via our enquiry form.
