What is a trailed module?

If you are an undergraduate student and you fail one of your modules (worth 15 credits) at your current level, or you have one module (worth 15 credits) deferred due to approved extenuating circumstances, you will have an opportunity to attempt the outstanding assessment/s for it in the next academic year alongside your next level of modules and therefore be eligible to progress into the next stage of your studies.*

For example, if you have a HE4 trailing module, you must pass it within your HE5 year of study.  You would not be able to progress into HE6 without successfully passing the HE4 trailing module.

This module is termed a trailed module and only one single module can be carried over in this way.

You will take the outstanding assessment(s) for the trailed module in the relevant semester that it is taught. You will also need to resit the failed assessments of your trailed module without attendance at any classes or teaching for the module. You will still have access to the module’s resources on SurreyLearn. No additional tuition fees will be charged. Please refer to Regulations for Taught Programmes.

*The exception to this is foundation year students, who are not permitted to carry over any failed modules into the next year of their programme.
